Teaching Philosophy
As an educator, I believe in creating a safe space for students to thrive, regardless of their learning needs, backgrounds, or abilities. I have a keen interest in mental health. Navigating the academic pressures of school life can be very challenging for many students. According to an article by The Irish Independent in 2023 entitled 'Leaving Cert students can get very stressed — these are the signs parents should look out for', it states:
"Sixth year is an extremely stressful time. Huge workloads quickly turn life into a balancing act that requires skills of the most efficient and productive adults. Young people rarely have the self-awareness to easily manage this challenge without any hiccups. Aiming to achieve a good balance is key to achieving a successful Leaving Cert while taking care of our wellbeing."

Undoubtedly, having the students best interest in mind in relation to their wellbeing is of outmost importance throughout the junior and senior cycle. Art can have a therapeutic effect in the classroom, while still being a challenging subject. I believe in fostering an environment wherein students can reap the benefits of the therapeutic nature of art while also reaching their full potential academically.
While I also believe that whether students choose to pursue art in their careers or not, that they will have gained insight into appreciating the world around them, and understand how powerful art can be in sparking discussion around pressing societal issues.
